CHICAGO (WTVO) — A Chicago man with an extensive criminal record who was on electronic monitoring while awaiting trial in a retail theft case was arrested after allegedly entering Gov. JB Pritzker’s Gold Coast property on the Fourth of July, according to reports and court documents.
Dwayne Cortez Milton, 46, is charged with criminal trespass after authorities said he was seen on surveillance video climbing a fence and entering the backyard of the governor’s Chicago residence shortly after 10 p.m. July 4.
Illinois State Police troopers assigned to Pritzker’s security detail detained Milton before Chicago police officers arrived and took him into custody.
The case attracted additional attention because Milton was on electronic monitoring at the time of the incident. CWB Chicago reported court records show he had been placed on electronic monitoring June 17 in connection with a felony retail theft case and allegedly began violating the terms of his release almost immediately.
The report said a judge later issued a warrant for his arrest after repeated monitoring violations.
