Rep. Miller Says the FY27 Budget is Loaded with Taxes and Handouts

Springfield, IL…The FY27 budget was passed by the Illinois House of Representatives marking the largest budget in state history. The taxpayers of Illinois were hit with $55.9 billion in new spending which includes $800 million in new taxes. State Representative Chris Miller (R-Hindsboro) says the inflated budget and lack of prioritizing affordability for families drowning in taxes highlights the new generation of progressive Democrats in Illinois.

“This budget hands over $400 million to immigrants but slaps even more tax hikes onto the people of Illinois,” Miller said. “Illinoisans have already been robbed out of billions since Pritzker took office, and instead of giving working families tax relief, the Democrats have increased spending and doubled down on progressive policies. Under the Pritzker regime, one tactic is always assured: tax more, borrow more, and spend more.”

The FY27 budget passed through the General Assembly with all House Republicans in opposition.

“Between increased taxes and not supporting federal policies that would lower the cost of living, Democrats have made it clear with this budget that Illinois citizens and small businesses are not their priority,” Miller continued to say. “It’s an insult to taxpayers who are drowning in high taxes to watch lawmakers receive another pay raise and spend millions on pork projects in Democrat districts.”
