State Rep. Chris Miller Raises Concerns After Deceased Individuals Found on Jury Panel

Springfield, IL…State Representative Chris Miller (R-Hindsboro) is sounding the alarm after a county in Illinois discovered that dozens of deceased individuals were included in a jury summons pool, calling the situation a warning sign for voter record maintenance statewide. After learning that approximately sixty deceased individuals were summoned for jury duty in Whiteside County, Rep. Miller said the incident points to outdated records that must be addressed.

“This is a serious breakdown that demands attention,” said Miller. “When individuals who passed away decades ago are still appearing in official systems, it raises legitimate concerns about the accuracy of our records and our voter rolls. Illinois should be taking a closer look at how data is maintained across agencies.”

According to reports, one individual died over thirty years ago, highlighting Miller’s concerns of a serious systematic issue.

Rep. Miller filed House Bill 1498, which he says would strengthen election administration by improving the process for removing deceased individuals from voter registration lists, enhancing oversight, and increasing transparency.

“We need commonsense safeguards that ensure our systems are accurate and up to date,” Miller added. “Maintaining clean and reliable records is essential to public trust.”
