Rep. Miller is Fighting to Protect Our Roads from Criminal Illegal Immigrant Drivers
Springfield, IL…Recent headlines shine a light on how dangerous it is when illegal immigrants are driving without knowing how to read English. State Representative Chris Miller (R-Hindsboro) said Illinois needs to do more to protect our roads from illegal drivers who don’t understand the rules of the road. Rep. Miller is Chief-Cosponsor on House Bill 4184, a bill that requires every driver in Illinois to be a U.S. citizen.
“We must enforce laws that protect Illinois citizens and prioritize keeping our roads safe,” said Rep. Miller. “We continue to see tragedies occur on roads in our communities due to illegal immigrants driving without knowledge of our laws. To keep Illinois citizens safe, we must set strict guidelines on who can obtain a driver’s license and have all applicants prove they understand English, which is why I support HB4184.”
HB4184 bans all illegal immigrants from obtaining an Illinois driver’s license. The bill also requires all drivers to prove they can read and write in English to fully understand the rules of the road in Illinois. The bill is known as “Claytons’ Law”- in remembrance of Coles County Board Member Mike Clayton and his wife Gail, who died in a crash involving a criminal illegal alien who was charged with driving under the influence and reckless homicide.
Miller continued, “We can easily prevent and deter criminal illegal immigrants from driving on our roads and putting Illinois citizens at risk, but our Governor chooses to side with criminals. Until we get serious about enforcing laws that save lives, we will continue to have unsafe communities with illegal immigrants who have been given a free pass to break our laws by JB Pritzker. Mike and Gail Clayton would still be with us if we didn’t have sanctuary state policies that let illegal criminals run freely.”
