Memorial Day is more than a long weekend, it’s a day of remembrance for those who gave their lives in service to the United States. Their sacrifice paved the way for the freedoms we enjoy. Let us honor them with respect, reflection, and gratitude.

Camp Butler in Springfield
The Department of Veterans Affairs Camp Butler National Cemetery, in collaboration with the Inter-Veterans Council of Sangamon County, hosted a solemn Memorial Day wreath-laying ceremony today at 2:00 p.m.
The event featured speeches, a moment of silence, a rifle volley, and the playing of Taps. Patriotic music was provided by the Springfield Municipal Band, and the Land of Lincoln Chorus performed the National Anthem.


“We owe our service members who lost their life to protect our freedoms a personnel a debt of gratitude,” said Miller. “Through their sacrifice, they have safeguarded the ideals of our founding fathers, saved our nation, and protected the innocent and liberated the oppressed.”
