Democrats File Bill That’s Degrading to Law Enforcement

FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE

Springfield, IL…State Representative Chris Miller (R-Hindsboro) is appalled over Democrats filling a bill that amends the Illinois Vehicle Code: laws police officers currently enforce. HB4603 was filed by Representative Justin Slaughter (D). Strong opposition was loud and clear from law enforcement and state representatives across Illinois.

“This bill is absolutely insane, it degrades our law enforcement and proves radical Democrats support protecting people who break laws,” said Rep. Miller. “This bill should never have been filed and it really shows how Democrats perceive public safety.”

HB4603 amends the Illinois Vehicle Code. Law enforcement would be breaking the law if they enforced the following:

  • Stopping a vehicle for failing to display registration plates or stickers.
  • Stopping a vehicle for operating with an expired registration sticker.
  • Stopping a vehicle for speeding (unless it’s a misdemeanor or felony)
  • Stopping a vehicle for improper lane usage (unless it’s a misdemeanor or felony)
  • Stopping a vehicle because the operator is not wearing a seatbelt.

This ridicules bill reduces public safety and impowers people to not follow the laws. Drafting legislation like this destroys the very fabric that keeps communities safe.

According to the Illinois Association of Chiefs of Police, Executive Director Kenny Winslow was contacted by Representative Justin Slaughter and was informed he would not be calling the bill because it was “too broad”.

Rep. Miller continued his opposition by stating this:

“The idea of filing a bill such as HB4603 is a prime example of priorities that are important to the supermajority party and their efforts to create anarchy. People need to wake-up and see the writing on the wall that points to a socialist and lawless state. Even though this bill is not being called, it’s a very dangerous move played by the radical Democrats who I guarantee will circle back around to their notion of public safety.”
