Rep. Miller Calls for Madigan’s Removal from Speakership

While Illinois House Speaker Michael Madigan, facing yet another serious scandal, has refused to step down, State Representative Chris Miller today joined dozens of House colleagues in calling for his immediate removal from the Speakership.

“Testimony by Commonwealth Edison officials before both Federal prosecutors and the Illinois Commerce Commission allege a scheme to personally benefit Speaker Madigan in exchange for ensuring the utility favorable treatment in the House. It was just two years ago that the Speaker’s Office was embroiled in a widespread sexual harassment scandal that forced the resignation of his longtime Chief of Staff. Enough is enough. Illinois families deserve and demand honest, transparent government,” Rep. Miller said.

Rep. Miller is a chief co-sponsor of House Resolution 885 which calls for the immediate removal of Michael Madigan as Speaker of the House. Miller has demanded that Governor Pritzker call a Special Session of the General Assembly to address our ongoing ethics crisis, and to immediately consider the removal resolution.

“For decades Michael Madigan has led Illinois down a path of scandal and economic ruin. If he won’t do the right thing and resign from the Speakership it’s our duty to remove him,” Rep. Miller said.
